Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun women's basketball recorded a Sun Belt Conference road win on Thursday night, defeating the ULM Warhawks, 71-52, in Monroe, La.

The game served as the 2015-2016 league opener for both schools.

Louisiana broke open a close game through the first 32 minutes, outscoring ULM, 23-4, over the final 8 minutes, to bring home the win.

Trailing, 15-10, at the end of the first quarter, Louisiana outscored ULM, 26-13, in the second quarter, to take a 36-28 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The Cajuns outshot the Warhawks in the first half, 52%/42%, while also ending the half with a 17-14 rebound advantage.

Jaylyn Gordon led the way for Louisiana over the first 20 minutes, scoring 17 points, going 6-of-9 from the field, including 5-of-8 from beyond the three-point arc, while Alayshia Hunter paced ULM with 12 points and 6 rebounds.

ULM went on a run to begin the second half, outscoring Louisiana, 12-4, over the first 4:45, to tie the game, 40-40.

A Kia Wilridge basket gave the Cajuns a 42-40 lead at the 4:02 mark of the third period, helping them to a 48-45 advantage after three quarters.

With the game tied, 48-48, Gordon sank a big three-point shot, giving Louisiana a 51-48 with 7:19 left, before Keke Veal added a two-point bucket with 5:57 remaining, to make it 53-48.

Wilridge concluded a 7-0 Louisiana run with a lay-up, extending their lead to 55-48 with 5:41 to go.

The Cajuns would never look back, as they never relinquished the lead, and outscored the Warhawks, 16-4, the rest of the way, as they went on to the 19-point victory.

Louisiana ended the game outshooting ULM from the field, 47%/39%, while also finishing with a 37-30 rebounding edge.

Gordon paved the way for the Cajuns, finishing with a game-high 21 points, to go along with 8 rebounds, while Veal and Wilridge added 14 points apiece.

In a losing cause for the Warhawks, Hunter finished with 20 points and 9 rebounds, while Chelsea Tieuel contributed 12 points.

With the victory, Louisiana improved to 5-1, overall, and 1-0 in Sun Belt Conference play, while ULM dropped to 4-2, and 0-1, respectively.

The Cajuns return to action on Saturday, December 12, when they host Dillard in non-conference play.
