UL Women’s Baketball Hammers LSU-Shreveport, 83-42
Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns women's basketball team stayed unbeaten on the young 2012-2013 college basketball season on Monday night, defeating the LSU-Shreveport Lady Pilots, 83-42, in front of a record 1,007 fans at Earl K. Long Gym.
With the score tied, 9-9, Louisiana went on a 15-0 run, and never looked back, leading 45-27 at halftime, and cruising to a 41-point win in Gary Broadhead's first home game as head coach of the Cajuns.
UL out-shot LSU-Shreveport from the floor, 47%-30%, and also out-rebounded the visitors, 48-30.
Defensively, the Cajuns caused 24 turnovers, including 17 steals.
Louisiana put six players in double-digit scoring, including freshman Sylvana Okde, who scored a game-high 19 points, while junior Ashley Benjamin added 12.
Freshman guard Kia Wilridge was outstanding in her first home game at the college level, scoring 11 points, while pulling down a team-high nine rebounds, and dishing out a game-high six assists.
In a losing cause for the Lady Pilots, Katie McCoy had 15 points.
With the win, UL improved to 2-0 on the young season, while LSU-Shreveport dropped to 2-1.
The Cajuns return to action on Friday, when they travel to Omaha, Nebraska to tak on Nebraska-Omaha in non-conference play.
