UL Women’s Basketball Downs Troy, 62-57
Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun women's basketball team won their second-straight game, defeating the Troy Trojans, 62-57, in Sun Belt Conference action at the Cajundome on Wednesday night.
Louisiana led at the half, 32-15, out-shooting Troy from the floor, 48%-17%.
UL also out-rebounded the Trojans, 18-16, in the first half, while forcing 11 turnovers.
Freshman guard Jaylyn Gordon led the way for the Cajuns in the first half, scoring 12 points, while pulling down four rebounds.
Defensively, Louisiana held Troy guard Joanna Harden, who came into the game as the leading scorer in the conference, averaging 25.3 points-per-game, to only four first half points, on 1-of-7 shooting from the field.
In the second half, Troy out-scored Louisiana, 29-13, in the first 15 minutes of the half, to cut the UL lead to 45-44 at the 5:00 mark.
The key to the run for the Trojans was their defense, keeping the Cajuns from scoring a field goal until Sylvana Okde nailed a three-pointer at the 3:50 mark, giving Louisiana a 48-44 advantage.
The Cajuns then scored eight more unanswered points, capping off an 11-0 run, to take a 57-44 lead with 1:32 remaining.
Troy was able to cut the lead to three points, 60-57, at the :25 mark, but it wasn't enough, as Louisiana went on to the five-point win.
The Trojans out-rebounded the Cajuns, 42-32, but UL out-shot the Trojans from the field, 46%-29%, and that proved to bet he difference in the game.
Brooklyn Arceneaux led the way for Louisiana, pouring in 17 points, while Gordon finished with 12, to go along with eight rebounds.
In a losing cause for Troy, Harden exploded for 23 second half points, to finish with a game-high 27.
With the victory, the Cajuns improved to 12-13, overall, and 5-9 in conference play, while the Trojans fell to 9-15, and 5-8, respectively.
The Cajuns hit the road on Saturday, when they travel to Atlanta, Georgia to take on the Georgia St. Panthers, before returning home on March 2, against South Alabama.
