MONROE, La. (AP) — Although total enrollment at the University of Louisiana at Monroe this fall is about the same as it was last year, the freshman class has grown 10 percent and carries the strongest academic credentials in ULM's history.

This year's freshman class, consisting of 1,302 students, has an average GPA of 3.38 and an average ACT score of 22.3 — both of which are more than 2 percent higher than last year.

ULM President Nick Bruno tells The News-Star the size and quality of the 2012 freshman class is a result of increased recruitment efforts.

Total enrollment this fall is 8,560 students, which is 66 students — or 1 percent — less than the fall of 2011.
