University of Louisiana at Lafayette President Joseph Savoie has been re-elected to a top post.  Savoie will be representing Louisiana on the executive council of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.

This is the group that is responsible for accrediting higher education institutions in 11 Southern states.

Savoie will serve on a 13-member council.  This group of people are tasked with setting higher education standards for colleges and universities.  They also must make sure that these standards are met.

Another responsibility of this council is interpret the policies and procedures for college and universities in Louisiana and the following states:

  • Alabama
  • Florida
  • Georgia
  • Kentucky
  • Mississippi
  • North Carolina
  • South Carolina
  • Tennessee
  • Texas
  • Virginia

The members of the council are elected by the board of trustees, and Savoie's one-year term continues through December 31.
