On Sunday, Iberia Parish Sheriff's deputies went undercover to foil a drug dealer's narcotics operation.

Sheriff's spokesman Maj. Ryan Turner said agents with the parish's Special Investigations Unit arrested 30-year-old Jerome Davis after detectives received complaints about illegal drug activity.

Detectives responded to the complaints that centered around the 100 block of Iberia Street in New Iberia. The undercover agents bought approximately one gram of suspected cocaine from Davis, who was arrested immediately afterwards.

For the drug transaction, Davis was charged with distribution of Schedule II controlled dangerous substances.

During the booking process, deputies learned that this was not his first tangle with law enforcement. Davis was previously arrested for the same narcotics charge and was actually on parole when he was arrested Sunday. Therefore, he was also charged with violation his parole.

“I would like to thank the numerous cooperating sources for coming forward and providing information which led to this arrest," said Iberia Parish Sheriff Louis Ackal. "Our community becomes a safer place when citizens speak up and assist us with keeping drug dealers off of the streets.”
