The St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Department was awarded a $10,000 grant from the Union Pacific Foundation.

The grant money will be used to train sheriff deputies along with officers of neighboring smaller departments.  Several department rely on St. Landry to train their employees.

Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz said,

"These funds will assist me to keep my promise to staff our patrol division with highly trained deputies serving this parish."

The foundation says their goal in giving grant money is to help make local law enforcement departments successful.

Originally created as the Union Pacific Railroad Foundation in Omaha, Nebraska, the foundation has distributed funds since 1959 to organizations in communities served by Union Pacific.
