FARMERVILLE, La. (AP) — A 79-year-old Union Parish man has been booked with attempted manslaughter in the wounding of his stepson.

Sheriff Bob Buckley tells The News-Star Clyde Brashier of Farmerville remains in the Union Parish Detention Center. Brashier's bond is set at $40,000.

Buckley said Brashier is accused of wounding 51-year-old Donald Hicks on Saturday.

The sheriff says Hicks was hit in the mouth, stomach and pelvis. He is listed in critical condition at a Shreveport hospital.

Investigators said Hicks had been living with his mother and stepfather for about nine years and was upset because they would not agree to let Hicks' daughter live there for free.
