With the revel of the Mardi Gras season, donating blood is probably the last thing that may enter someone's mind. Unfortunately, like during most holidays, that's when blood shortages tend to hit blood donation centers the hardest.

Jason Connor with United Blood Services says they are in need of all types of blood:

Mardi Gras is a bad time of the year for us. Staying ahead of the game is the hardest part at this moment, especially with the fact that over the weekend, with Mardi Gras and all of the festivities involved, it kinda takes attention from us.

You combine that with the holiday season, beginning in November with the Thanksgiving holiday, and one of the worst flu seasons we have had in quite some time and you can see why they are in such need of blood donations.

A typical blood donation normally takes about 45 minutes of your time. To schedule an appointment, click here.
