Unlocked Vehicle Burglaries On The Rise In St. Martin Parish

Lock your vehicles! That's the message from the St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office as they've noticed in the past few weeks, there have been several burglaries of unlocked vehicles throughout the parish.

Major Ginny Higgins with the St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office says thieves intentionally target vehicles that are left unlocked. She says they often hit several residents in a neighborhood at one time.

Major Higgins recommends you keep serial numbers and pictures of all valuables in a secure place in the event items are taken, which will make it easier to report and eventually identify and retrieve stolen items.

Major Higgins also advises you to park your vehicle where it is well lit, which will often times deter a thief from targeting it.
