Highway 90 Sign
KPEL

Early yesterday morning, the Louisiana State Troopers responded to a three vehicle crash on highway-90 at Verot School rd. that took the life of one man.

According to the report by troopers, Bret Legnon of Lafayette was driving at an unknown high rate of speed when he traveled through the center median into the eastbound lanes.

He hit two vehicles head on. The first was a large SUV driven by Brian Jackson of New Iberia and the second was a passenger car driven by Canh Nguyen of Abbeville.  The Lafayette Parish Coroner pronounced Legnon dead.

Troopers are still trying to determine if Legnon was wearing a seat belt.  Meanwhile, Jackson and Nguyen were both restrained, but sustained minor injuries and were taken to a local hospital.

The cause for the crash is not currently known, but impairment on Legnon’s behalf has not been ruled out.  Toxicology samples have been submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab.
