UPDATE: Results Of The OWI Checkpoint

During the course of the operation 536 vehicles passed through the checkpoint located in the 3900 block of West Congress Street Street.  Of those vehicles, 15 drivers were stopped for secondary testing.  A total of 6 drivers were arrested and charged with OWI.  Below is a list of those individuals arrested.

• Seth G. Prejean (22)               -                       OWI
• Cory A. Baronet (28)               -                       OWI
• Christopher Myers (32)                       -                       OWI

In addition to the above arrest, 15 citations were issued for various violations and Josh T. Alesi (20) of Lafayette was arrested for Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Powder Cocaine and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

OWI Checkpoint Scheduled

On Saturday, December 18, 2010, between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 3:00 a.m., the Lafayette Police Department and the Lafayette Sheriff’s Office will be conducting an OWI Checkpoint within the incorporated limits of Lafayette.  The purpose of the checkpoint is to target impaired drivers under the influence of alcohol or any other dangerous substance.  Officers working the checkpoint will respond with zero tolerance to those drivers found to be under the influence.  Designate a driver if you intend to drink, by not doing so, could result in costly fines and serious jail time.
