At 1:15 Monday afternoon Lafayette firefighters responded to a call of a house fire in the 100 block of LaSalle Street. When firefighters arrived flames and heavy smoke were coming from the front of the home. According to the owner the home was vacant for some time and new tenants were in the process of moving in. The home was not secured and it had been occupied at times by homeless people. Investigators determined that at least three people were in the home when the blaze started. Two of the three were questioned by police and admitted to living in the house and using illegal drugs. The third person is being sought for questioning. No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
