MORSE, La. (KPEL) — Residents of Acadiana are proving once again how generous they can be during times of need. A family in this small Acadia Parish town is learning that first-hand shortly after a devastating fire wiped away everything they owned while on a family vacation in Tennessee.

“Everyone has been completely wonderful,” said Mark Thibodeaux, husband and father of three. “It’s a true blessing. It’s a miracle.”

The family has received about three to six trash bags of clothes each night since the fire, Thibodeaux said, a testament to the giving nature of Acadiana’s residents.

“We can’t be thankful enough,” Thibodeaux said. “I can’t thank everyone enough.”

Thibodeaux recalled getting the “frantic, hysterical” phone call from his step-daughter that their house was on fire. Her boyfriend, who is a volunteer firefighter in Acadia Parish, took the call, and Thibodeaux said “his heart just dropped when he knew which address it was.”

Fire crews battled the fire for more than five hours, according to authorities. Everything, including their cars and the family’s pet bird, was lost.

“You always think there’s no place like home, but if you come home to nothing, it was pretty devastating,” Thibodeaux said.

If you would like to help the Thibodeaux family, you can drop off items at the More Fire Department off of Hwy. 91. If you plan on contributing in this way, you’re asked to call Megan Smith at (337) 250-2670 or Holly Racca at (337) 384-4918 before dropping off your donations.

A fund has also been set up with the First National Bank in Crowley under the Mark & Jennifer Thibodeaux Emergency Fire Fund.

Thibodeaux said they are in need of household items, including towels and wash cloths.
