LAFAYETTE, La. (KPEL) -- Verizon Wireless has announced plans to unveil its 4G Long Term Evolution network in the Lafayette area.

The wireless carrier, which claims to have the nation's fastest 4G network, says the network will be implemented in the coming weeks.

"Our 4G LTE network covers more than two-thirds of the U.S. population," says Krista Bourne, Verizon president for the Houston and Gulf Coast region. "With our 4G LTE network, residents, small businesses and local government in Lafayette will be able to leverage the speed and connectivity through a variety of 4G LTE devices to connect with family and friends."

Verizon says users should expect average data rates of five to 12 megabits per second on the downlink and two to five megabits per second on the uplink.
