The Vermilion Parish Courthouse is in need of more security after being court-ordered to provide it.  This week the the Vermilion Parish Police Jury will be working on a way to pay for the changes.

State District Judge Edward Rubin ordered parish officials Sheriff Michael Couvillon, police jurors and District Attorney Mike Harson to put together a plan to have better security for the courthouse.

Rubin mandated the changes after a grand jury did an inspection of the courthouse this year.  They found there was "insufficient" security for everyone going into the courthouse.

Police Jury President Nathan Granger says there are several committees that plan to meet this Wednesday to discuss what could be done.

Granger says the police jury needs to factor in the security needs of those who work there.
