Agents with the Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Office Narcotics Unit executed a search warrant within the city of Abbeville, and they were able to seize a large amount of "high quality" marijuana from 37-year-old Lien Nguyen.

Officers say they found two large mason jars full of "Hydro" marijuana.  Nguyen has been charged with possession with the intent to distribute marijuana and possession of marijuana.  Police says they also found a stolen handgun.

Right after agents executed the warrant, they tried to stop a car that had driven up to sell marijuana to their suspects.  The passenger got out, say the agents, jumped into the driver's side of the car, and took off, but not before crashing into one of the agent's cars.

The original driver of the car, 22-year-old David Broussard of Abbeville, was detained and then charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana.

Police are still looking for the passenger 32-year-old Fabian Mitchell of Abbeville.

Agents then went to Kaplan to execute another search warrant, and they seized synthetic marijuana, illicit prescription pills along with a weapon.  30-year-old Daniel Allen of Kaplan was arrested following the search.  He was charged with:

  • Possession with the intent to distribute schedule I narcotic
  • Possession of synthetic marijuana
  • Possession of Lortab
  • Possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance
