ABBEVILLE, La. (AP) — Vermilion Parish voters could face school tax renewal on the May ballot

The Vermilion Parish School Board will seek to place a renewal of an existing millage on the May 2 ballot.

Financial officer Phillip Sellers tells The Advocate (http://bit.ly/1IBaPOf) the tax was initially approved in 1996. The tax is dedicated to three sources: the purchase of buses, the purchase of technology and textbooks, and roof and air conditioning. Sellers says its merely a renewal of an existing millage, not a new tax."

Sellers says the tax generates about $3 million for school operations, and the loss of revenue would be felt in the district's budget.
