A section of Verot School Road in Lafayette has been closed to traffic as local authorities respond to a severe vehicle collision that occurred just after noon on Saturday (Apr. 27). The Lafayette Police Department reports that they were called to the scene in the 300 block of Verot School Road at approximately 12:07 p.m. after at least one vehicle struck a pedestrian.

Upon arrival, emergency services found two victims needing immediate medical attention. One of the victims, a pedestrian, was transported to a local hospital and is currently in critical condition. A second victim sustained moderate injuries and has also been hospitalized. The driver of the vehicle involved in the incident reported only minor injuries and declined medical treatment at the scene.

The Lafayette Police Department's Traffic Unit is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. To facilitate this, a stretch of Verot School Road from the 300 block to the 400 block heading towards the Evangeline Thruway has been temporarily shut down. Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes and avoid this area to minimize congestion and ensure the safety of emergency responders.

Authorities have not yet specified the cause of the crash or when the road will likely reopen. We will update this post as more information is made available.
