Lafayette Police are searching for a suspect in a shooting that has left one victim in critical condition. The shooting occurred Friday night around 1130 in the 100 block of Wilkins Street in Lafayette. The victim, a 23-year old male, remains in critical condition in an area hospital.

KATC reports that, according to eyewitnesses,  the victim was inside a residence when he answered a knock at the door. The suspect, described only as a black male, shot the victim once in the chest before fleeing.

The motive for the shooting remains unknown, though a gun was found in the vicinity of the residence where the shooting took place.

Anyone with information regarding the shooting is asked to call Lafayette Police or Crime Stoppers at 232-TIPS.
