(Washington, DC) – U.S. Sen. David Vitter signed on as a co-sponsor to Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison’s bill, S. 724, The Ensuring Pay for Our Military Act. The bill would ensure that military service members are paid in the event of a government shutdown.

“The brave men and women serving our nation at home and away should not be subject to the politics of the potential shutdown,” Vitter said. “Protecting our homeland and allowing our troops to continue fighting against terrorism has to remain a top priority, no matter what is going on in Washington.”

The Ensuring Pay for Our Military Act encompasses all active duty military, reserve components and Coast Guard service members. Additionally, this legislation would give discretion to the Secretary of Defense to allow Department of Defense civilians and contractors who support the military the ability to be paid during a government shutdown.
