(Washington, D.C.) – U.S. Sen. David Vitter today voted in support of a U.S. Senate resolution to prohibit Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider, from receiving taxpayer funding.

“The Senate ought to respect the wishes of the majority of Americans who adamantly oppose using taxpayer dollars for abortions by denying all federal funding to this abortion machine,” said Vitter.  “If we can’t agree to cut funding for the nation’s largest abortion provider as we stand on the brink of financial collapse, then we aren’t serious about cutting spending at all.”
Planned Parenthood received more than $363 million in taxpayer funding in 2009 – the same year it performed an unprecedented 332,278 abortions.  In 2009, 98% of Planned Parenthood’s services to pregnant women were abortions.
