The food at Waffle House may not prolong your life, but the help sure will.

Renee Vance, a waitress at a Waffle House in Cobb County, Georgia, saved the life of a 76-year-old customer who was slumped over the counter last weekend.

When someone yelled for help because the man appeared to be having a stroke, Vance sprang into action. Because she’s diabetic and a nursing student, she realized the man was actually slipping into diabetic shock and checked his blood sugar level with her own glucose meter:

I stood behind him and pulled his head up this way and just started pouring orange juice and making him drink….I knew he was going to go into diabetic shock if I didn't get some sugar in him.”

Paramedics soon arrived, by which point the man, identified only as Leo, was already bouncing back.

Vance, who’s been working at Waffle House for 27 years, took her heroic efforts in stride, saying, "I just did what I did. I didn't think about it. It was just save him. Something's going to happen if I don't.”

Leo, meanwhile, has been released from the hospital and is back home.

Here's hoping he leaves Vance a great tip the next time he pops into her restaurant.
