I'm sure we all have friends and family who think that Mardi Gras is only celebrated in New Orleans, and you have to raise your shirt up to actually get some beads and trinkets. But for all of us here in Acadiana, we know that the traditional Mardi Gras celebrations have absolutely nothing to do with that. And they are just as beautiful and fascinating as the celebrations in bigger cities and towns across the state.

The Courir de Mardi Gras is usually held in rural areas around Acadiana, and is also known as a 'Chicken Run'. It says so much about Louisiana that this unique event is still being celebrated to this day. Watch the video from Mamou's Courir de Mardi Gras in 2010 below to get the full effect of the fun. And Happy Mardi Gras, y'all!
