City of Scott officials are wanting to make the public aware of the possibility of someone trying to scam you out of your money and your social security number.

According to the press release from City of Scott Comprehensive Plan Facilitator Pat Logan someone call a resident of Scott claiming they were from the city government, and that the person was behind on their utility bill.

The scammer told the person that they needed their credit card number and their social security number so that their utilities would not be shut office.

The utility customer did report this incident to the Scott City Hall.

Scott City officials want everyone to know they will not ask for your social security number in order to pay an overdue bill.

The City of Scott doesn't demand payment over the phone as they would contact you via the mail.

If you are unsure of, or suspect a scam, contact the Scott City Hall at 233-1130.
