MONROE, La. (AP) — The city of Monroe is experiencing a problem getting its water bills out.

The News-Star reports the city is about two months behind in billing customers for water, sewer and trash services because of problems linked to the installation of automated water meters.

City officials will meet this week to decide how to correct the problems, some dating as far back as October, and will send pamphlets to customers explaining the billing situation as early as next week.

Department of Administration Director David Barnes says some of the problems have been corrected, but not all of them.

To make up for the delays, Barnes said the plan is to reduce the billing cycle to 20 days until the bills catch up to the readings.
