Waterworks District Records $164,000 In Losses

LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) An audit finds a shrinking customer base is the main reason why a waterworks district in Calcasieu Parish has experienced $164,000 in net losses over the last five fiscal years.

The audit involves Waterworks District 2 of Ward 4, which services residents in the Mossville community. Along with the net losses, the report also states that the district has not paid any required loan payments in the last five years.

The Calcasieu Police Jury created the water district in 1965. The American Press reports Raymond Malveaux, board president for the district, declined to comment.

The district's customer base began shrinking after Condea Vista agreed to settle on a $32 million lawsuit that involved ethylene dichloride being discovered in Mossville, which contaminated the groundwater.
