NEW ORLEANS (AP) — For those who are not registered voters, Wednesday is the last day to register for the upcoming election in October which features contests for statewide and local offices, including the race for governor.

Election day is set for Oct. 24 in elections for governor, parish president and the Louisiana Legislature.

Residents may register to vote online through the secretary of state's office or in person at the local registrar of voter's office.

Voters must be at least 18 years old, however, 17-year-olds may register to vote, and at the state Office of Motor Vehicles 16-year-olds may register.

There are several other places where in-person registration is possible, such as at Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles sites, social services offices and at Armed forces recruitment offices.
