WESTLAKE, La. (AP) — The Westlake City Council has approved the city's budget, which eliminates funding for one employee's position.

The American Press reports the updated budget eliminated the more than $49,000 in funding for the chief administrative officer post, which is now held by Lonnie Smart.

Councilman Bob Hardey said the council has put a lot of effort in putting this year's budget.

Hardey said eliminating the post would free up money for a vehicle, insurance and gas.

He says the budget also puts a freeze on all hiring and allows for a 3 percent cost-of-living increase for city employees.

The budget can still be amended in future council meetings.
