Three law enforcement officers are dead after they were ambushed in Baton Rouge Sunday morning around 9:00 a.m.

State Police Superintendent Colonel Mike Edmonson says a total of six officers were shot. Two of the dead are from the Baton Rouge Police Department while the other is from the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office.

The suspect in the ambush has been identified as 29-year-old Gavin Eugene Long.

Colonel Edmonson says there is no active shooter scenario in Baton Rouge and says the next press conference is scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday as the investigation continues.

The shooting happened less than one mile from police headquarters. The attack began at a gas station on Airline Highway. Colonel Edmonson asks everyone to avoid traveling in that area until the case has been wrapped up.

The Law Enforcement Officers

The three law enforcement officers who died on Sunday were Baton Rouge Police Department Officers 32-year-old Montrell Jackson and 41-year-old Matthew Gerald and East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Deputy 45-year-old Brad Garafola.

The three law enforcement officers who were injured on Sunday were East Baton Rouge Parish sheriff's deputy 41-year-old Nicholas Tullier, who was last reported in critical condition, as well as East Baton Rouge Parish sheriff's deputy 51-year-old Bruce Simmons and a 41-year-old Baton Rouge police officer who were both treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Simmons has been released from the hospital.

The Shooter

The suspect has been identified as a black male named Gavin Eugene Long of Kansas City, Missouri. Long, born on July 17, 1987, is said to have made the deadly attack on his 29th birthday. According to cnn.com, Long legally changed his name to Cosmo Seteprenda
