White Cop Caught Shooting Black Man to Death In South Carolina [GRAPHIC VIDEO]
A white police officer in North Charleston, SC has been charged with murder in the shooting death of an unarmed black man.
The violent incident was captured on cell phone camera by a witness who was in the area.
Michael T. Slager, 33, was caught shooting Walter Scott, 50, eight times as Scott attempted to run away. Slager claims he was worried for his safety after Scott showed a stun gun during a traffic stop on Saturday.
Graphic video obtained by The New York Times shows the encounter. Please note the nature of the clip, which you can see below.
North Charleston Mayor Keith Summey was quick to condemn Slager:
When you’re wrong, you’re wrong. And if you make a bad decision, don’t care if you’re behind the shield or just a citizen on the street, you have to live by that decision.”
According to police, Slager had stopped a Mercedes for a broken taillight, during which time Scott fled the scene after grabbing the officer's Taser. Slager fired a Taser, which failed to corral Scott, who had a warrant out for his arrest and a lengthy record. After chasing Scott, Slager fired the shots and reported on his radio that the suspect was down and "He took my Taser."
The video, however, does not appear to corroborate that, since it looks like Scott drops the Taser before he ran.
The Justice Department has begun an investigation into the matter. You can see video of the shooting below. Again, note the graphic nature.
