Over the last few weeks a lot of folks have been discussing former St. Landry Parish PIO Captain Clay Higgins, but who is the man behind the name?

UPDATE: Clay Higgins gave a great interview with KPEL 96.5's Ken Romero & Dr. John on what his life was like before he became a viral sensation. Check out the video above.

On the surface level, it's easy to assume that Higgins fits the mold of a common narrative seen daily on social media: a gun-toting hothead officer who uses his badge to feed his power-hungry ego—but that couldn't be farther from the truth.

All I personally know about Higgins outside of the viral videos that everyone has seen is based on the times he has stopped by our studios. He's a lot less intimidating in street clothes—usually sporting jeans and a leather jacket, but his "mission" is a genuine one.

A good way to find out about the man behind the 'Cajun John Wayne' character is to watch the video above—a video that welcomes supporters to Clay Higgins' website where his Higgins Gear is available.

One of my favorite character traits about Higgins is that he actually supports your right as an American to disagree with his beliefs—and whether or not you agree with his faith, it's worth checking out what he stands for when it comes to that "mission" he often speaks of.

Sure, Higgins could be a total fraud, but if that's the case then he's definitely investing a TON of energy and work into a front that he definitely isn't seeing a return on—unless you call losing your job a "win."
