In this edition of "Not Necessarily The News," Tootie Landry profiles a man who has had a big impact on sports in Louisiana.

"Hey! I’m Tootie Landry and this is what I found out today!

Maybe it was growing up during the Depression that gave this man the fortitude to deal with different types of losses. Or, was it his time serving our country in the U.S. Navy during WWII? Regardless of the reason, he has had more wins in life than losses. There are times in his private moments, he feels the pain from burying 2 of his 3 children and his wife.

Don’t let his smile fool you; he generally gets what he wants. In 1985 this Southern Gentleman had a vision and built an empire! His investment of $70 million dollars is now worth 10 times that amount! According to Forbes Magazine, his net worth is over $1 billion dollars!

He’s been known at times not to share his wealth, but those days are gone! He’s given millions of dollars away, not to mention considerable donations of goods and services. Getting the awards from serving his country are some of his proudest moments. He’s been honored by the crew of the submarine U.S.S. Louisiana and the National WWII Museum.

He’ll dance the “Boogie,” but he’s not the “Boogie Man!” He’s known to some as a man who owns a whole bunch of car lots, but to us—he’s Tom Benson—the owner of our beloved New Orleans Saints!!

And I’m Tootie Landry and this is “Not Necessarily the News!”
