The state Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says a husband was injured and his wife was killed during an accident on the Amite River near Killian.

Spokesman Adam Einck said the victims were 58-year-old Richard Ledoux and 59-year-old Deborah Ledoux.

The accident happened at around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Investigators believe the husband was driving their 17-foot shallow-draft boat, while searching for turtle traps in the area, when they hit a tree.

They were not thrown from the boat, but both sustained traumatic injuries.
