Woman Arrested In Homicide Of 3-Year-Boy

Following an eight-month investigation, Brittany Marie Prejean, 24, of Rayne was arrested for first-degree murder for the death of her fiancée's 3-year-old son, Keaghyn Parsons.

Prejean, being held without bond at the Acadia Parish Jail, was reportedly the child's caretaker while his father was at work at the time of Parsons death. On May 24, 2014, the Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office responded to a call near Jennings concerning an unresponsive child. Parsons was pronounced dead after being taken to Jennings American Legion Hospital.

An autopsy conducted by the Calcasieu Parish Coroner's Office determined that the child's death was caused by a perforation to the small intestine from blunt force trauma to the abdomen. Investigators determined Parsons received the injuries on May 14 and ruled his death a homicide.
