With the recent news of Kate Spade's death, several people have taken to social media to chide a local woman for showing sympathy.

A Fox News story popped up on her Facebook page, and it was filled with hateful comments about Kate Spade. She felt sickened by the number of people who responded with jokes that Hillary or the Clintons were behind it. Or that it was karma for what Spade did to Ivanka Trump. (I am not hip on the fashion industry, so I have no idea what that was about).

Naturally I had to make a post and I said how sad it was to see ppl make tasteless jokes over a woman who must have been in the darkest place of her life that the only relief was death. - Facebook user

She commented on the Fox News story and said that it was sad that people were making tasteless jokes about a suicide, at what must have been a very dark time in Spade's life. She went on to say that if this is what it takes to make America Great again, we really are a "broken country".

Then the responses rolled in, and they weren't pretty.

Then I said if Making America Great Again is about people being cold and unfeeling then we really are a broken country. And that in that motto I was trying to be more aware of the things I say and do that affect others around me. -  Facebook  user

She was bombarded by people who called her names and accused her of disrespecting President Trump (she never mentioned his name, btw).

She began to respond to each one with an explanation, which only fueled their rage.

I try really hard to not allow any news feeds be a part of my Facebook

I can’t handle the stress and the back and forth of all that negativity

However,  for SOME reason I got an alert from Fox News today

I got the news alert from Fox on FB earlier today about the suicide of Kate Spade and I started reading the posts of all kinds of people putting in their two cents

Now why fox infiltrated my Facebook (again) I do not know as remember I choose not to follow ANY news source on Facebook but

It was just heartbreaking and sickening how many ppl responded with jokes that Hillary or the Clintons were behind it. Or that was karma for what Kate Spade did to Ivanka

It was just so sad

About how I’m disrespectful to our president and how I bashed Trump supporters. Which I never mentioned a thing about Trump. Never said a disrespectful thing at all however bc I said Trump's campaign promise. I guess it was as seen as most post targeting Trump supporters. Which it was not. It truly is about doing MY PART TO SEE AMERICA RISE ABOVE ALL THIS MESS GOING ON

TO EACH COMMENT I would respond calmly and wish each one well. But each time I got an angrier, uglier response

And all I wanted to stress was that this was no time to throw political slurs when there was a daughter without a mom tonight. A family without a member who they will forever wonder if they failed her. Missed signs of her cries for help.

But to be called names Like a liberal or a snowflake is a slam? I’m scratching my head over how being called either name will put me in my place?? Like it’s the scarlet letter? I never really considered myself either one of those labels. I just see myself as an American wanting to do what is law abiding. And humane. And to hear out both sides of the coin.

I don’t get it. I’m just venting to you bc I’m trying to digest when this crack in our country started and has continued to grow deeper by the day

And then someone mentioned out of the blue that when Sharia Law was implemented bc of the democrats pushing it. That at least I’d be made to shut my mouth. I may have spelled Sharia incorrectly

Which I have no idea what that is about except that it has something to do with Muslims and their extreme rules regarding women.

What makes me step back and say WOAH HOLD UP HERE. is that this all started bc of one woman who chose to escape this world in a very tragic way. Yet it suddenly became a political name calling event played out on social media

When this is about mental illness. And desperation to do whatever it takes to shut your brain off. That this woman likely felt as tho she was a drain on the people she loved and she just didn’t want to pull them down the dark spiral she was on

I truly feel that all this negativity is increasing and feeding some metaphorical beast and it’s gaining strength and growing by creating the disasters that are continuing to happen world wide each day

What happened to the UNITED part of America
... rhetorical question.

America, we are better than this.
