Woman’s Body Found On Bridge In St. Mary Parish [UPDATE]

MORGAN CITY, La. (AP) — St. Mary Parish detectives are investigating the death of a woman whose body was found on the two-lane La. 182 bridge that crosses the Atchafalaya River connecting Berwick and Morgan City.

Sheriff's office spokeswoman Traci Landry tells The Advocate (http://bit.ly/1o2E2X4 ) the body was discovered around 4 a.m. Tuesday. The St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office has identified the woman but his withholding her name until next of kin is notified.

Authorities provided no information about the possible cause of death or whether foul play is suspected.

Landry says detectives are working to identify the woman and notify next of kin.

She says the death is under investigation pending the outcome of the police and coroner's reports.
