GONZALES, La. (AP) — Construction of a $1.3 million fire station in Prairieville and the repair of another station north of Gonzales are nearly finished after months of work.

Fire officials say the only minor punch list items costing an estimated $4,800 are left to finish on the Seventh District station along La. 44.

The Advocate reports a tornado hit the station Dec. 12, 2012, damaging doors to the truck bay, the cinder block facade, the roof and the driveway.

Renovations on the Seventh District station near Gonzales began in mid-September. Architect David Mougeot said the project cost $226,243, after an approximately $30,000 change order to replace the roof.

The old roof had a design that did not allow it to be taken apart and put back together and still remain water-proof.
