Workouts Begin For Saints, No Brees In Sight

The New Orleans Saints start getting in shape today, but a familiar name will not be attending. Drew Brees is non-committal in attending practice today, and still has the franchise tag attached to his name. Brees is still holding out for a long term contract deal with the Saints.

It is expected for Saints' owner Tom Benson to make an announcement about the contract deal today.

In light of Sean Payton's suspension beginning today as well, the Saints have also decided on a interim head coach for the season, Joe Vitt, the current assistant coach for the Saints. The problem lies in that he is suspended for the first six weeks for the bounty scandal as well, so another coach is needed for the first six weeks as well. A coach for those six weeks hasn't been decided on, but we will update you as soon as one is chosen.

The 2012 season begins on September 12th.
