A crash Tuesday night left one man dead, put another in the hospital, and caused a huge traffic tie up. It happened on US 90 in St. Mary Parish around 10 PM.

State Troopers says Damiyhan Verrett of Raceland was driving his SUV the wrong way on US 90 eastbound when his car hit a Dodge one-ton pickup. The man driving the pickup, Stuart Primeaux of Lafayette, was pulling a gooseneck trailer that had flammable and corrosive hazardous materials. After the two vehicles collided, troopers say the pickup went through the median, crossed both westbound lanes of the highway, and stopped in a wooded area north of the roadway. This caused Troopers and Hazmat crews to be on the scene till 5:30 the next morning. Verrett died on the scene, while Primeaux suffered moderate injuries and went to the hospital. Troopers suspect Verrett was impaired, but not Primeaux. Samples of both drivers blood have been sent in for analysis.
