It's always nice to be recognized by national publications, and it always catches our attention - I mean, we ARE the 'Happiest City in America' right?!

Well, our friends at Yahoo Travel have posted a story that asks the burning question ' 'Is This Tiny Southern Town the Next Austin? First of all, I don't think we're that tiny, but, on the other hand, we have a lot in common with the self proclaimed 'Live Music Capital of the World' Our Zydeco and Cajun music is first rate - whether you want to run out and see live music at a venue any night of the week, or at one of our 'very Lafayette' festivals - Festivals Acadiens et Creoles, or Festival International de Louisiane.

Our food - what can we say? Gumbo, etouffee, boudin, cracklin, jambalaya - for everyone who thinks the only great cuisine in Louisiana is in New Orleans - think again. The difference between the Creole influence of New Orleans, and the Cajun influence of Lafayette is miles apart - both delicious, but different. City food vs country food.

Art: We have murals and art galleries downtown, and ArtWalk on the second Saturday of each month. People come from all over the world to buy 'Cajun' anything, and downtown Lafayette has so many locally owned businesses that can show off our wonderful culture. We also have a first class performance art venue with Acadiana Center for the Arts.

The outdoors: With great weather almost year round, Lafayette, and the nearby Atchafalaya Basin corridor are a mecca for those who love outdoor activities. I mean, we are 'The Sportsman's Paradise'!

All in all, we think we're pretty special, and thanks for the compliment, Yahoo Travel!
