You may be wasting perfectly good food. The average American family throws away $500 dollars worth of a year.

It often seems to me every trip to the grocery store is more costly than the last.

The Huffington Post reports some foods are still good after their expiration date. Butter is still good a month after the "sell by" date. Eggs are OK for 3-5 more weeks. Milk is still OK for a week after. Hot dogs, yogurt & bacon, too.

According to the Mayo Clinic, block cheese doesn't need to be tossed just because it has mold. Simply cut it off. When you buy natural aged block cheese, it's probably been trimmed...more than once.

Remember, throwing away perfectly good food is like throwing money away.
