YOUNGSVILLE, La. (AP) — The Youngsville City Council has passed a resolution that approved bike lanes to be added along Chemin Metairie Parkway.

City engineer Dax Douet says the bike lanes will not widen the road, but will be added to the already existing 8-foot shoulders.

Douet says the entire project is estimated to cost $110,000. Youngsville will be responsible for 20 percent of the cost while the Metropolitan Planning Organization of Lafayette Parish will pick up the rest of the tab.

Mayor Wilson Viator tells The Advocate the bike lanes will be a welcomed addition to Chemin Metairie, especially with the new sports complex scheduled to be completed by March.
