ZACHARY, La. (AP) — The Zachary Police Department will accept outdated prescription medicines for disposal today from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the police station, 4510 Main St.

Police Chief David McDavid tells The Advocate (http://bit.ly/Tte8wu ) free bowls of jambalaya will be given to residents who drop off old and unwanted medicine.

The department will accept any prescription drug intended for people or pets, including pills, liquids, inhalers, patches and epinephrine autoinjectors. Syringes and medical equipment will not be accepted, McDavid said.

Liquids should be in bottles with tape wrapped around the caps. Residents also can drop medicines in a box at the police station's Florida Street entrance at any time, McDavid said.

Collected medicines will be incinerated.
