BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — First-time claims for jobless benefits in Louisiana decreased for the week ending Jan. 29.

The Louisiana Workforce Commission says there were 3,872 initial unemployment filings for the week, down from the previous week's total of 3,934.

The four-week moving average of initial claims increased to 4,827 from the previous week's average of 4,737.

For the comparable week ending Jan. 30, 2010, there were 3,818 first-time filings.

Last week, those still looking for work filed for an additional 50,654 weeks of benefits, down from 51,548 the previous week.

For the comparable week in 2010, there were 64,224 additional weeks of payments.
