The hype leading up to the showdown between #1 Alabama and #3 LSU was not matched by the game itself, as the Tide shutout the Tigers 29-0 on Saturday night in Death Valley.

"I'm satisfied with the way we played today," said Alabama head coach Nick Saban. "This is a tough place to play. We wanted to make a little bit of a statement too in terms of the kind of team we had and people talking about our schedule and what not."

Statement made.

LSU entered Saturday night's contest having rushed for 100 or more yards in 25 consecutive games. Alabama held the Tigers to 12 yards rushing, while the Tide ran for 281.

Tigers quarterback Joe Burrow threw for 184 yards and 1 interception. He was under duress all night, as the Tide sacked him 5 times.

Crimson Tide quarterback Tua Tagovailoa threw for 295 yards, 2 TDs and 1 INT, while rushing 3 times for 49 yards and a 44 yard touchdown in the 3rd quarter that put the Tide up 22-0.

"He's a great competitor. He's very instinctive. He's a great arm talent and reads a lot of plays for us very well," said Saban of his QB.

Alabama finished with 576 yards. LSU ended the night with only 196.

The 102,321 in attendance were loud early, but quieted down as the game worn on and Alabama wore down LSU.

The Tide dominated in the trenches from start to finish, and have now shutout LSU in their last two trips to Tiger Stadium (Alabama won 10-0 in 2016).

LSU falls to 7-2 overall and 4-2 in SEC play with the loss. Alabama remains unbeaten at 9-0, have clinched a spot in the SEC Championship game, and have all the makings of another National Championship team.

Next week, the Tigers travel to Fayetteville to take on 2-7 Arkansas.
