Auditor’s Report: Former Sheriff May Owe Refund

BOGALUSA, La. (AP) — A state legislative auditor report shows that former Washington Parish Sheriff Robert Crowe's administration could have followed better business practices and may owe the public a refund.

Legislative Auditor Daryl Purpera's assessment was done at the request of current Sheriff Randy Seal.

During the six-month period prior to leaving office, the audit found that Crowe may have improperly used a parish credit card to make 45 purchases totaling $1,283 at local restaurants.

The Daily News reports (http://bit.ly/10b9pq6) the business purpose and the names of those who participated in the meals were not recorded on the credit card receipts.

According to the auditor's office, Crowe said the card had not been used for personal purchases and explained that, for example, occasionally paying the lunch bill for residents was good public relations.
