BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — A Baton Rouge man has been convicted of manslaughter in the AK-47 assault rifle shooting deaths of a mother and her son outside their Baton Rouge home in 2009.

The Advocate reports an East Baton Rouge Parish jury of nine women and three men deliberated for more than eight hours Tuesday and early Wednesday morning before finding Derrick George Gordy guilty on two counts of manslaughter.

Forty-year-old Patricia Aldridge and 21-yeaer-old Ronald Thacker Jr. were killed on Sept. 30, 2009.

State District Judge Trudy White said she will sentence Gordy on Sept. 11. Manslaughter carries up to 40 years in prison.
