The Better Business Bureau of Acadiana warns lawn care scams are popping up like weeds after a good spring rain.

Unscrupulous lawn care services promise to treat a lawn with fertilizer or herbicide and when the homeowner returns there may be service flags planted about the yard and a receipt for the work in the mailbox. Either the work is not done or poorly done and the lawn does not look any better.

This scam is hard to prove unless you have someone able to watch your lawn throughout the day on the appointed day of treatment.

The BBB recommends you visit bbb.org to find a reputable company before doing business. Get recommendations from family and friends and avoid anyone who gives you a quote over the phone without actually seeing your lawn.
