BOSSIER CITY, La. (AP) — The Bossier Parish sheriff says a 19-year-old high school student faces several charges after he kicked and punched an officer at his school.

D'Angelo Tramaine Smith was arrested Tuesday at Airline High School in Bossier City following the altercation with the officer and the school's principal. Sheriff Larry Deen says during a search of Smith later, marijuana was found in his backpack and a knife was found in his car, which was parked on school grounds.

Smith was taken to LSU Health Sciences Center for minor injuries, then transported to the Bossier Maximum Security Facility and booked on several charges, including possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a drug free zone and battery of an officer with injury. Bond is pending.
